Located at the rear of a
three storey Victorian villa the kitchen
and small dining area had been subjected
to intrusive alteration and was physically
and visually cut off from the large back
garden. Original Victorian features were
repaired and previous alterations either
removed or adapted, for example, cutting
away the base of the rear 1970’s portrait
window enabled access to the garden. The
glazed doors to this opening can, when opened,
be discretely be set back within the reveals,
through contemporary interpretation of the
traditional shutter detail, allowing an
uncluttered passage between kitchen and
garden. The scheme successfully mixes traditional
with contemporary and reflects the Clients’
treatment of the rest of the House.
